Summer STEM Programming

STEM for GirlsThe youth of our country are the future leaders of this nation. As they grow, it is up to us to provide them with opportunities to exponentially learn and cultivate skills that will deliver them a better tomorrow.

The Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities Foundation (MJCHF) has a mission to facilitate activities promoting respect, civility, understanding and forgiveness among people in order to influence positive social change. Part of this mission is also to remove barriers that hinder individuals and groups from realizing their aspirations and full potential.

Many children of the U.S. are already headed down the road of success. Consequently, there are still plenty at a disadvantage to such attainment. The issue of socioeconomic status, race, religion and other factors all tie in to create these drawbacks. As a start to stop hindering underprivileged students from opportunity, MJCHF will host STEM summer projects.

The MJCHF has created the Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Center to provide chances for students to see and reach their hidden capacities.

STEM for GirlsThe STEM Center is a non-profit, educational partnership for finding solutions to problems and conditions through experimentation, communication and teamwork. It will prepare students to thrive in a global economy by transforming and learning to respond to life’s challenges. They will also be lead in activities that spur self-innovation toward answering the “what” and “how” of the issues facing communities and the world.

STEM summer projects include day camps for grades K-12. These camps will provide kids chances to work hands on with educators in the realm of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Camp Examples:

Robotics Camp – Students will use prototyping kits to build their own operational robots. They would also take on modules teaching them mathematics/scientific content through the incorporation of robots.

Engineering Camp – Students will engage in hands on activities focusing on the engineering design process. Projects will include categories such as: electricity, force/energy, going green, health, simple machines, sound/music, space/transportation, structures, and technology.

Coding and Gaming Camp – Students will learn how and why computer programming works. They will also have the opportunity to create their own programs, games, and even mobile applications.

Chemistry Camp – Students will explore chemical processes and reactions and how chemicals work together to create, or destroy, something new.

Biology Camp – Students will participate in hands on activities to learn how life grows, evolves, and understand the workings of organisms.  They will explore photosynthesis, forensics, microorganisms and metamorphosis.
